What an 8-Year Annuity Really Means
An 8-year annuity is an insurance contract with an eight-year surrender period. During those eight years, your money is either growing, paying income, or setting up future income, depending on the annuity type.
Most “fixed” annuity shopping comes down to three options:
- MYGA for a guaranteed rate over the full term
- Fixed indexed annuity (FIA) for index-linked growth potential with no market-loss risk
- Period certain annuity for a guaranteed income stream that lasts exactly eight years, then stops
Why do people choose eight years?
- Often, stronger contractual value than shorter terms
- More time to benefit from index-crediting resets or compounding
- A solid “bridge” window for retirement timing, Social Security planning, or re-positioning later

8-Year Period Certain Annuity Rates
How it works: An 8-year period certain annuity pays income for exactly eight years. It does not provide a lifetime income. Payments are contractually guaranteed for the fixed period, after which they stop. If the annuitant dies before the term ends, the beneficiaries receive the remaining scheduled payouts.
8-year payout rate: 14.30% (annual payout rate for the eight-year term)
Example: A $100,000 period certain annuity would pay roughly $14,300 per year for eight years, then stop.
| Premium Deposit | Annual Payout | Monthly Payout (Approx.) | Total 8-Year Payout |
| $100,000 | $14,300 | $1,191.67 | $114,400 |
| $250,000 | $35,750 | $2,979.17 | $286,000 |
| $500,000 | $71,500 | $5,958.33 | $572,000 |
| $1,000,000 | $143,000 | $11,916.67 | $1,144,000 |

8-Year Fixed Indexed Annuity (FIA) Rates
How it works: An 8-year FIA credits interest based on the performance of a market index (like the S&P 500), with protection when the index is down. You can earn interest when the index rises (subject to caps, participation rates, or spreads), and you don’t take market-loss hits in negative years.
- Athene BCA 2.0: 24.45%
- North American Company Performance Choice 8: 11.38%
Please Note: Unlike MYGAs, Fixed Indexed Annuities do not offer a flat guaranteed annual interest rate. The returns listed above represent hypothetical historical performance based on specific index participation strategies. In years when the underlying index is flat or negative, your contract will credit 0% interest while safely protecting your principal from market losses.
